What is the reason for Dr. Kaye's practice?
The medical practice of Dr. Joseph Kaye and his associates was founded in 2009 to meet a clear need: Patients want to achieve optimal health and wellness at all ages - even to slow or reverse the symptoms of ageing. We strive to provide the means for patients to achieve these goals.
How do you differ from the traditional model of medicine?
Our current medical system is designed to diagnose and treat the symptoms of disease when it is in its final or acute stage. It is not designed to create wellness or to effectively prevent disease. It is much easier to prevent disease than to cure it. We strive not only to diagnose disease in its early stages when it can be more easily reversed, but to prevent it. We use the techniques of functional medicine to optimize the functions of the body systems. While we may use traditional drugs and hormones, we also employ the targeted use of nutritional supplements and scientifically tested natural medicines to achieve health objectives that are not possible with standard pharmaceuticals. Finally, we focus on diet, the main component of health. When you become a patient, you will learn in detail exactly what, how, how much, and when to eat in order to achieve your best health.
How does Dr. Kaye do this?
Dr. Kaye's practice uses the technology and medical science of the 21st century to optimize wellness and find the roots of disease, particularly the chronic conditions that are only treated symptomatically by mainstream medicine. We are not focused on symptoms so much as finding the root causes of illness and reversing them. This is the basis of functional medicine. We take an individual approach to each patient.
Who can benefit from this approach?
The beauty of our method is that everyone can be made healthier, regardless of their condition. Some will be cured; everyone will have an improvement in their health and a better understanding of their illness and how their lifestyle impacts it.
What conditions have you treated?
Our patients are seeking advice and help with issues such as weight loss, healthy aging, bioidentical hormone replacement, menopause, andropause, expert nutritional testing and guidance, diagnosis and treatment of chronic illness, detoxification, and aesthetic services such as botox and fillers. We are now providing preconception medical care to help assure you have the best chance of having a healthy baby. We have successfully treated patients with MS, dementia, memory loss, anxiety, depression, bipolar, asthma, food allergies/sensitivities, acid reflux/GERD, indigestion, irritable bowel, chronic fatigue, arthritis, fibromyalgia, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, thyroid disorders, adrenal disorders, polycystic ovarian syndrome, obesity, diabetes/insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome, hypertension, atherosclerosis/high cholesterol, menopause, andropause(low testosterone), migraine headache, hair loss, fatigue, osteoporosis/osteopenia, ulcerative colitis. Crohn's disease, autoimmune disease, allergies, yeast infections, and many other conditions.
"The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease."
- Thomas Edison
Dr. Joseph Kaye
From an early age, Dr. Kaye knew he would become a physician. He has had a lifelong fascination with how the body functions and how we can use diet, medicine, and the natural substances all around us to enhance our health. These substances may be bioidentical hormones, natural medicines derived from plants, vitamins, or nutrients. Joseph Kaye, M.D. was raised on an organic farm, which instilled in him awareness of the importance of healthy, locally grown food and a proper diet. Today, he has a strong emphasis on diet in his practice and operates a highly successful weight-loss program.
In addition, Dr. Kaye has trained extensively in traditional allopathic medicine, completing residencies in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine and has cared for over 15,000 patients in his career thus far.
At his current Integrative and Functional Medicine practice, Dr. Kaye merges natural and traditional medicine, with a focus on weight loss, bioidentical hormone replacement, sports nutrition, mood and neurological disorders, reversal of chronic disease, anti-aging medicine, preconception medicine, and detoxification. Dr. Kaye dedicates his practice to guiding his patients through the process of healthy aging and helping them to alleviate or reverse chronic illness.
Dr. Kaye helps women and men find relief from symptoms of hormonal imbalance such as low libido, weight gain, irritability, depression, hot flashes and loss of muscle mass. Dr. Kaye offers his patients bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) and customized nutrition, supplement, and fitness programs as well as standard and complementary medical treatment.
Using advanced laboratory, genomic, and physical testing that is not available to most physicians, Dr. Kaye and his associates attempt to identify unsuspected causes of chronic conditions, which can then be corrected, returning his patients to a state of wellness and vitality.
Dr. Kaye has trained in Mind-Body Medicine through Harvard and uses Meditation, Biofeedback, and Stress Management in his practice. Dr. Kaye practices what he advocates to his patients and can discuss his programs from his experience as a patient. He exercises daily, follows a prudent low-stress/nontoxic lifestyle, eats a healthy diet with appropriate supplementation and has been treated with BHRT since 2005.
Dr. Kaye received his Bachelors in Science, Magna Cum Laude from Pennsylvania State University and graduated with honors from Jefferson Medical College in 1989. He has completed a Surgery Internship, residencies in both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine, and has obtained extensive postgraduate training and board-certification in Integrative and Holistic Medicine and in Antiaging and Functional Medicine. He has completed a fellowship in antiaging and functional medicine sponsored by the American Academy of Antiaging Medicine. He is a member of the Sigma Xi and Alpha Omega Alpha scientific and medical honor societies, a member of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Massachusetts Medical Society, the American Holistic Medical Association and the Institute for Functional Medicine.
Dr. Kaye does not directly participate with any insurers, Medicare, or Medicaid.
We will provide you with a receipt and the appropriate diagnostic codes and the forms needed to submit the receipt to your insurer for reimbursement.
Dr. Kaye is happy to write you a letter to justify the medical necessity of your treatment to your insurer or Health Savings Plan. You may use your Health Savings Account to pay for your visits if they are not covered by your insurance.
We require payment in full at the time of the visit. We require a 50% deposit for your initial visit to secure your first appointment. You may reschedule this visit if you give us a reasonable notice; if you fail to show up for your first visit, then the deposit is not refundable. When you come to your first visit, the deposit is applied to your initial visit fee. This is necessary to keep our costs down and to provide you with as much undivided attention as you need.
We work for you, not the insurance companies. We cannot guarantee reimbursement by your insurer, however we have found that PPO plans with out-of-network coverage will reimburse about 80% of your visit charges. Most insurances and Medicare and Medicaid do pay for blood testing and other lab services in full. If you have a high deductible, we can have your lab testing done at a 75% discount if you pay the lab directly. Prescriptions will be paid as usual according to your insurance plan.
Please contact the office for specifics regarding visit fees. Additional costs may be incurred for testing, medication, and supplements. Depending on your insurance, some or all of these costs may be reimbursed. Please call the office to discuss with our staff if you have any questions about the financial aspects of the practice. We encourage you to directly contact your insurer to determine if your visits and medications and testing will be covered.
